·         SAE 20 Oil
·         Dollar bill or business card

Steps to Successfully Maintain Your AC
1.      Inspect the condition of AC filter(s) in your house. Getting proper flow of clean air is constricted by dirt in air filters in the system is subject to affect the overall performance. So, it is important to was reusable filter or replace it with clean filter. Before removing the air filter, be sure to turn off the air conditioning unit.

2.      Make sure to keep the overall functioning of outer compressor unit well to keep enjoying the highest performance every day. Uninterrupted flow of air is said to be the key to increase efficiency of air conditioning unit. Pull the vines away which are coming outside the AC unit. Avoid all the vegetation with pruning shears which obstructs the flow of air.

3.      Check out the fins (slim metal lines on unit’s exterior body) on outer AC unit to find out any sign of damage. Use fin comb which is a tool to straighten fins which are bent and restricting the efficiency and performance of air conditioner.

4.      Inspect the grill of outside compressor and check out the fan’s condition. Foreign objects can interrupt the overall rotation of fan and outside object can easily fall into the compressor’s grill. So, use screwdriver and remove the outer panel and inspect if there is any bent on the blades. Replace the fan but don’t try to straighten the bent blade of fan. Fan’s performance can be hugely affected even with a little bent fan blade.

5.      At least on yearly basis, inspect the compressor and make sure it is level after any drastic change in weather condition. In one direction after another, place carpentry level around the top of unit. Unleveled compressor may potentially affect the efficiency of itself significantly. In order to level it, put a wooden shim under compressor’s one side, when needed.

6.      Remove the thermostat cover. Wipe the dust and dirt off with soft brush on the thermostat that has bimetal coil, especially in case of having older thermostat. You can find bimetal coil in the thermostat around the bottom. Thermostat sends signals to the system about the best time to turn the system on and off. Among the contact points, put in the dollar bill, business card or any other paper slip and wipe the points by sliding the paper among them.

7.      Every year, lubricating the motor of fan is important especially in case of having oil ports. You can use SAE 20 oil which is lightweight and non-detergent, to lubricate fan motor.
